Lesson Languages: English Description: I have taught every high school math course from pre-algebra to precalculus. I am a graduate of Yale College where I majored in philosophy. I have a Masters degree in philosophy from the New School for Social Research. My background in philosophy has helped me understand the conceptual underpinning of all mathematical knowledge. I make sure students understand why something is true. I do not believe in rote-memorization of facts. At the same time I understand that there are many ways to convey an idea and I try to find the way most suitable to who is being taught. One-on-one tutoring makes this a much simpler process than trying to teach a class where there will be a large number of learning styles. I am currently teaching at Bard High School Early College, where students begin in the ninth grade and earn a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College after four years. I think my many years in the classroom make me uniquily qualified to teach students who are struggling with mathematics.
